Ipswich Town makes a £20 million bid to solidify their transfer interest in the Middlesbrough FC star.

To entice Hayden Hackney from Championship rivals Middlesbrough to Portman Road, Ipswich Town is putting together an incredible offer.

The Tractor Boys are reportedly willing to pay the Teesside team up to £20 million for the native midfield player, who has been linked to several Premier League teams in the past, according to a recent post from Alan Nixon via Patreon.

It should come as no surprise that many people believe Kieran McKenna's team to be among the initial front-runners for automatic promotion alongside teams like Leicester City, Southampton, and big-spending Birmingham City after spending the previous season among the elite of the top division.
In contrast to many of its impending second-tier rivals, Town has not yet fully demonstrated their financial strength, even after selling Liam Delap to Chelsea for £30 million.

If the Suffolk team could make a transfer, though, it would be the Championship's record incoming deal, and heads would turn.

Ipswich is preparing a £20 million transfer for Hayden Hackney of Middlesbrough FC.
After enjoying a first breakthrough season under Michael Carrick in 2022–2023 and emerging as one of Boro's most important players despite two near-misses on the play-offs following an initial semi-final loss to Coventry City, Hackney has been in high demand for a while.

Prior to the announcement of Ipswich's first interest earlier in the month, the 23-year-old was reportedly the target of attention from teams like Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, FC Porto (whose approach was turned down in January), and Crystal Palace.

Following a recent preseason friendly against League One's Mansfield Town, Rob Edwards, the new manager of Middlesbrough, gave an overview of his position on the transfer situation, declaring that Hackney was "fully committed" to the cause in the North East ahead of the forthcoming Championship campaign.

However, Nixon's previously mentioned update claims that the Suffolk club is planning a move that would see him leave the Riverside Stadium for Portman Road for an outrageous £20 million, which has been proposed for Hackney. They are also willing to pay him £35,000 a week.

It should come as no surprise that Hackney is still seeking a Premier League transfer and is not reportedly enticed by Ipswich's offer.

Nixon asserts, however, that no party in the aforementioned division has prepared a contract offer that is comparable to, equals, or surpasses Ipswich's.

A possible transfer for Hayden Hackney would indicate Ipswich Town's desire to advance.
Ipswich's hopes of an instant promotion would always be supported by beating Premier League teams to recruit such a highly regarded player, regardless of the cost.

But it will also put more pressure on McKenna, who is already under pressure to do so.

With Sam Morsy leaving for Kuwait FC and Kalvin Phillips and Jens Cajuste seeing their loan deals expire, Hackney will contribute a wealth of technical skill to Ipswich's new-look midfield.

After prior connections to Liverpool, the Town manager recently said that Azor Matusiwa, a £7.8 million acquisition, had the potential to play in the Premier League. Hackney and the Dutchman together in the centre of the pitch would make for a breathtaking sight.
A substantial pay increase is necessary, as the recent Under-21 European Championships winner only receives £6,500 per week at his boyhood club, according to Capology, a website that estimates player earnings. This would place him alongside Aro Muric and Dara O'Shea as the joint-highest earner at Ipswich.
