With their partnership with Cambridge-born LegalTech Genie AI, Cambridge United FC is now the first professional football team to use AI agents to handle all player contracts.
With many player additions scheduled before the transfer window ends on September 1st, the move is an attempt to tighten transaction turnaround times and cut down on external legal spending.
Despite being demoted to League Two the previous season, the team has recently made significant infrastructural investments, including as purchasing a new stadium and training facility.
This indicates that it is managing a large number of behind-the-scenes deals, ranging from complicated multi-party property agreements to sponsorships.
Using the club's pre-approved language, Genie AI's platform automatically creates, reviews, and tracks the club's commercial commitments. It can quickly identify clause variants and offer adjustments.
Early supplier and player contract trials suggest that legal review periods might be shortened from weeks to days, allowing staff to concentrate more on fan experience, player recruitment, and innovation.
