"Satisfied" is how Michael Appleton describes Shrewsbury's draw with Bromley on the first day.

Michael Appleton acknowledged that Shrewsbury needs to improve in a few areas, but he was happy with a point on the first day of the League Two season.

Salop's League Two opening against Bromley finished in a goalless draw, giving them their first point of the season.

In the match at the Croud Meadow, Town kept a clean sheet despite starting with five debutants.

They struggled to defend last season, which is why they were demoted from the third division.

Even though they didn't produce many goals in front of goal, Town managed to get their name on the league table in the sunny Shropshire weather.

"In a sense, it was a battle of attrition," Appleton thought. "I believe we were aware of our challenges. We were aware that it would be challenging.

"Bromley finished 24th out of 24 with the ball last season for a reason. They make it hard for you and get the ball forward early. There are some huge males on your team.

"You have a player who can get them up the field with a 60-yard throw. Their goal is to get free kicks or throw-ins high in your half.

"With the ball, we can accomplish a lot more effectively. However, defensively, I believe I'll take it to keep a clean sheet against a team that placed in the top half of the division the previous season. I'm content.

Shrewsbury will now play Tranmere Rovers the following weekend.

His words, "They'll all get better," went on. "Day one is here, and there are forty-five more to go.

"A point is displayed on the board. The good news is that we can maintain a clean slate even if we're 25 or 30 percent below our current level of performance. I must be content.

"I must realise that greater things are on the horizon.

Our ability to look sharper will make us appear more menacing. "For me, that would be the takeaway for the players.

Everyone is looking forward to it now that the first day is over.

There will be a lot of teams, supporters, and managers that believe they will be promoted or have a chance after the first day, and those who are depressed or feeling sorry for themselves.

"I believe we simply need to maintain our concentration. We are aware of what must be done.

We'll attempt to improve next week and try to score more than one point, but some things need to be improved."
