As their preseason schedule comes to an end, Coventry City will host FC St Pauli at the CBS Arena on Saturday.
There are still spots up for grabs, but Coventry City manager Frank Lampard claims he is constantly getting a better picture of how he wants his team to line up when the Sky Blues host Hull City at the CBS Arena on the first weekend of the season.
This preseason, Lampard has thoroughly examined his team. Josh Eccles and Haji Wright, who are still sidelined, will return to the mix soon, while Carl Rushworth, who performed admirably against Real Betis, will start in goal for one.
As of right now, you would think that Lampard would prioritise Bobby Thomas and Liam Kitching in his defence, especially after Joel Latibeaudiere missed the Betis friendly due to an injury.
Matt Grimes and Ben Sheaf are anticipated to form a line in the middle of the pitch behind Jack Rudoni.
Positions elsewhere, however, are still up in the air; both defences have plenty of alternatives, with five healthy full-backs vying f⁹or two spots.
Lampard is probably going to go with either Ellis Simms or Brandon Thomas-Asante up top. Players are being advised to take advantage of their chances when FC St. Pauli visits on Saturday.
"I'm getting closer," Lampard declared. "I'm considering a couple positions. Some people choose to chose themselves.
Although there is competition, it may not be as strong in other areas. For the players to be motivated to begin the new season, there must be a competitive challenge; else, the season would be lengthy. "We need that edge since we play a lot of games right immediately.
It's training to join the squad and head down every day if you don't start. How can I play to maintain my spot on the squad if I'm on it? A good squad can only play consistently throughout the season in this manner, and it's about to happen."
