When the Lions visit Loftus Road on October 18, Millwall and Queens Park Rangers have announced plans to remember former manager Gordon Jago MBE, who died on July 7 at the age of 92.
Both teams will wear black armbands, and there will be a minute of applause before to kickoff. The Rangers' matchday schedule will honour Jago as well.
Jago led QPR to promotion to the First Division in 1972–73 after being hired as manager in January 1971, originally on an interim basis. In September 1974, the coach, who was born in Poplar, quit the Rangers.
Two months later, he joined the Lions, who struggled to stay in Division Two but ended up in 20th place, three points outside of safety.
The next season, he guided them back to the second division, when they placed third in Division Three.
Later that decade, Jago relocated to the United States and managed the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the North American Soccer League from 1978 to 1982.
Before resigning in 1998, he went on to coach the Dallas Sidekicks indoor football team for two spells. From 2002 until 2012, he served as the executive director of the Dallas Cup, an international youth competition.
