Gale | "The club needs a lot of restructuring."

Following Gillingham's 0-0 draw with Reading at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Saturday, Sam Gale was pleased to earn more playing time.

The academy graduate was impressed by the efforts of Harry Waldock, Harry Bridle, and Harry Webster, who he played with throughout the second half.

Gale is enjoying the opportunity to spend more time on the training pitch before the upcoming season after a frantic conclusion to the last one.

Talking about the game

That performance was good. The boys in the first half, in my opinion, demonstrated that we can compete with a top League One team as a team.

Speaking with others has led me to believe that Reading has lofty goals. We were a little younger and less seasoned in the second half, but it didn't hamper us in the least.

Perhaps we should have demonstrated a little more will to move forward, but in these early preseason days, it will undoubtedly appear a little haphazard.

At this stage, it's mostly simply fitness, but there's a lot to improve.

Regarding Webster, Bridle, and Harry Waldock

Harry Bridle is one year younger than me, and the three Harrys—Waldock, Bridle, and Webster—are all two years old.

I've watched them for a few years now because they were leading the way in young team football when I was wrapping it up.

In my opinion, they have demonstrated their abilities in both games.

They had a lot of possession-related activities today, in my opinion, but they shown that they are trustworthy and mature enough to handle these kinds of circumstances.

The age difference between 18 and 20 is significant. I believe I experienced it when I played against Millwall two years ago at the age of 18. I felt that things moved a little too quickly.

At full time, the coach told them that they had demonstrated their abilities and that it was up to the supporters and everyone else in their immediate vicinity to continue supporting and encouraging them as they will be important members of this football team.

The advantages of spending more time on the training pitch

 It has been excellent.

The schedule at the end of the previous season was very busy.

In order to have that extra time in preseason to work with them [the management] and have them communicate their ideas, as well as what they expect and how they want the team to line up, I believe that we likely had fewer than five proper training sessions where we went on the grass and worked on stuff.

It has been outstanding, and I believe you can already tell that we will be a difficult squad to defeat. We will play as an aggressive front-foot club with plenty of speed and power in forward zones.
