Gareth Ainsworth, the manager of Gillingham, acknowledged that his team's strong start to the season may make it more difficult for them to make a deadline-day acquisition.
With four victories and two draws from their first six games, the Gills are leading League 2, but Ainsworth is still eager to bolster his team.
With the team at the top of the standings, it's appealing for any player to join Priestfield;
however, since his players are already playing at a high level, any newcomers will need to establish themselves in the starting lineup.
"I'll tell you on Monday," Ainsworth said when asked if Gillingham's undefeated start makes it simpler to draw in the players he wants.
It's good, indeed. However, it also suggests that we might not need to make any significant adjustments. Our group is strong.
It's difficult, of course, because when you recruit guys, they want to play, but no one has done anything wrong to be cut from the team.
It's a balancing act, then. In terms of numbers, I believe we need one more to make sure I'm covered everywhere, and that's what I want to accomplish.
"Hopefully, they'll say, 'Gillingham looks like they're doing okay and it looks like a decent location to be right now,' after looking at the league.
Therefore, let's hope we can get some past the queue. However, I'm quite content with what we have if we don't.
Although Ainsworth is happy with the calibre of young players emerging, he is aware that League 2 need senior experience to balance the roster. Any permanent moves must be made by Monday at 7 p.m.
"Joining the youth team is fantastic," the Gills manager continued. Joe Dunne does an amazing job with those youngsters, so it's terrific for him.
"These lads are coming through, but in order to keep us competitive and from running out of games, I still need some good players above them.
Monday at seven o'clock will be a good time because we'll know exactly who we are and what we have.
"Loads are unnecessary.
I'm quite content with my current situation. These boys are figuring things out and giving me everything. We might be able to add one more to it.
It would be fantastic, but if not, we are who we are.
"Some of my best moments as a football manager occur when the window closes, but I'm still working to get one player in, and that's really important to me."
