Tolaj, a striker from Port Vale, joins Plymouth

Lorent Tolaj, a forward from Port Vale, has signed a four-year contract with Plymouth Argyle.

The Pilgrims acknowledged they exercised a "substantial release clause" in Tolaj's three-year contract at Vale Park, although he joins for an undisclosed fee.

A year after a successful stint in the National League with Aldershot, he scored 14 goals in 37 games, playing a key role in Vale's promotion push as they finished second in League Two last season.

The ascent of Tolaj through the footballing pyramid was deemed "monumental" by Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley.

"He has demonstrated that he is a proven goal scorer wherever he has been, with an amazing record at every club, and we are confident he will translate that to an Argyle shirt," Cleverley said on the club's external website.

"I've been vocal throughout the window that we wanted the right number nine in the building, and although it has taken longer than we all would have hoped, I couldn't be happier that we have managed to bring Lorent to the club."

Cleverley's thirteenth summer transfer window acquisition is the Switzerland youth international.
