Conor Hourihane discusses Barnsley's transfer priorities following the "very picky" summer hiring campaign.

 Conor Hourihane, the manager of Barnsley, remains committed to acquiring the best players before the summer transfer window closes. 

 Before the summer transfer window closes, Barnsley is anticipated to be actively involved in the hiring process. The deadline for the Tykes to get further signings at Oakwell is 7 p.m. on September 1.

Conor Hourihane's team has had a fantastic start to the current League One season, winning three of their first four games and going undefeated.

However, Barnsley has more deals in the works and isn't content to sit back and enjoy their success. 

 Hourihane, however, will not be enticed to sign the wrong players and characters in order to get bodies through the door, as has been the case throughout the summer.

 Following his intentions for the last week or two of the window, Hourihane spoke with the Yorkshire Evening Post, saying:

These days, I place a lot of emphasis on completing the window with the correct players rather than just sending out texts and diving into one and saying, 'He will be terrific,' without actually doing the homework. The last pair I want is a picky one.

 "Getting the right ones is important." I believe that everyone can tell that I have been quite fussy throughout the summer. 

 Regarding interest in a few of Barnsley's star players, he went on:

 "I believe that applies to everyone, not just our key players."

I believe that everyone, not just our key players, is in the same boat if an offer is presented that is too good to refuse.

After supporting Conor Hourihane as their permanent manager, Barnsley is eager to get started. 

 Conor Hourihane, a former player-coach of the South Yorkshire club, was named Barnsley's new head coach in April. He was chosen to replace Darrell Clarke, who was leaving. 

 Hourihane's appointment was a risk for the Tykes' management, given it was the Irishman's first experience leading a first-team squad.

He was able to secure Barnsley a 12th-place finish at the end of the 2024–25 season, with two victories in their final five games. 

This gave his new team a solid base on which to build for the upcoming League One campaign.

 Hourihane has been able to truly personalise his team thanks to a plethora of signings made during the summer transfer window.

How does Barnsley fare now? This weekend, Barnsley will return to play against AFC Wimbledon. The Dons' most recent game ended in a 1-0 loss against Cardiff City. 

 The Reds will be hoping that their form and performances hold up for their journey to the capital and that they maintain their top three standings after such a successful start to the current third-tier campaign. 

 Some of Hourihane's best players have drawn early window attention from other teams, such as Luca Connell. However, it is unclear if his circumstances will improve in the future. 

 Numerous League One teams are interested in signing forward Dom Ballard, and the Tykes have acknowledged their interest in him as a possible loan possibility.

Barnsley will be hoping to be as successful on the pitch as they are off it before the window closes if they are to maintain their remarkable record.
