Though coach Paul Wellens thinks the winger can be "extremely proud" of the impression made in his debut senior season, ST HELENS are afraid that Owen Dagnall's season is ended.
After making his first-team debut in February's Challenge Cup third-round victory over West Hull, Dagnall suffered a quad tear the following month while playing for the Halifax Panthers under dual registration.
He didn't make his Super League debut until May against the Huddersfield Giants.
However, the 19-year-old has already made a name for himself as a key player in Lewis Murphy's injured absence, scoring eight tries in eleven league games.
Given his influence, Dagnall's hamstring injury sustained during last Friday's victory against Hull FC is regarded as a serious setback for both his team and himself, especially in light of the upcoming Super League run-in.
"If we are to be involved, there is a very slim chance that Owen could return for the playoffs," Wellens stated.
Nevertheless, Dagnall has had a strong run and shown his club that he can be a vital member for a very long time.
After suffering an injury on dual-reg, Wellens stated:
"His opportunity probably came a little later than both he and we would have liked, but in the twelve games he's had with us, he's shown what an exceptional player he can be for this club going forward."
"He is an extremely grounded young man who keeps up his hard work. Even if we hope it's not the end of the season, he may be rather happy of the contribution he's made to the squad if this is his final game of 2025.
"He has a strong desire to study, grow, and develop. He's not that kind of guy, much like Harry (Robertson) and George (Delaney), but it's very easy for young players to get swept up in that when they join the squad, perform well, and receive a lot of praise.
They are modest folks who keep up their hard work.
Developing young players who go on to have lengthy and fruitful careers here is a crucial part of this club's philosophy.
We believe that all three of those guys have a lot of time to play for this team.
Kyle Feldt, the Saints' other recent starting winger, will also miss this Friday's trip to Hull KR after he reported having concussion symptoms after the game last week.
Wellens suggested that Robertson was being considered for the other wing position, while Deon Cross might return to the team.
