In contrast to the huge Australian's circumstances a few months ago, Bulls prop Logan Bayliss is beginning to appear undroppable.
Around Easter, he was on the sidelines and loaned to Batley. He said that it felt "pretty rough" to be left out after what he considered to be a solid start to the season.
The prop, however, has started every Betfred Championship game since the beginning of July and has not missed a single game since returning to Odsal at the end of April.
And if Zane Musgrove's arrival from Oldham poses an additional difficulty, Bayliss has complete faith in himself.
"It was quite difficult to leave the team after a strong start to the year," he told the T&A. However, I got back into it and have made an effort to participate effectively each week.
Since I got back from Batley, I've been here, and things have been going rather nicely.
"It was more of a test for me to demonstrate that I could get back up and go again; it wasn't about coming back and proving anyone wrong."
While he went all the way after an outrageous dummy for a breathtaking solo score against Batley back in May, Bayliss grabbed attention last Friday against Sheffield with an exciting break to set up a first-half try for Tom Holmes.
According to the Australian, Bayliss' offensive flair sets him apart from most props.
"I've done that kind of thing a few times over my career," he said.
"Having that in your game is nice, but it comes off as pushing forward with my teammates.
"I knew I could do that when I got the ball in those positions, so that was my objective when I returned to the team."
"Hopefully, I'll have more chances in games like that."
Over the past two years, the Bulls have made it a practice to give underappreciated Australians chances; Bayliss, Zac Fulton, and Mitch Souter have all shown particularly good play since joining before or during the previous season.
When the former joined from Redcliffe Dolphins in June of last year, he was questioned about the differences between playing for the Bulls here and the Queensland Cup with them.
"I have observed distinctions between rugby league in the two nations, particularly with regard to the Championship," the prop stated.
"I thought it was a little more like Australia when we played those Super League clubs earlier this season.
However, it takes some getting used to because the way the game is played and adjudicated in the Championship is somewhat different.
"I don't believe I'm the only one who has said that either."
Given that Bayliss arrived in mid-June, right in the middle of the season, he must have had a very hard time adjusting last season.
"Being here since pre-season makes it a lot easier this year,"
the prop acknowledged. I was kind of thrown into it last year after suffering a significant injury that kept me out of action for a full year.
"Being in action for the entire year after having a preseason with the team this time has made things much easier and more comfortable for me as a player."
