According to reports, Sheffield United is making more of an attempt to get Millwall's Japhet Tanganga.
Following a fantastic 2024–25 season at The Den, the 26-year-old has been extensively reported as a target for the Blades.
After leaving Tottenham Hotspur for the Championship the previous season, he soon established himself as a key member of the Lions
The Blades are rumoured to have identified the former England youth international as a target in their quest to strengthen their backline.
Japhet Tanganga is being pursued by Sheffield United.
Reporter Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports claims that more is being done to land Tanganga. Last night, August 20, he posted on X, saying:
"Sheffield United is nearing a loan agreement for Atalanta defender Ben Godfrey. Tonight, the CB is taking a plane from Milan to England in order to finalise the contract and get a medical examination.
Additionally, it was reported that the Blades are intensifying their efforts to sign Japhet Tanganga of Millwall. probably between £2 and 2.5 million if a deal can be reached.
Tanganga was connected to a number of Premier League teams earlier in the summer. Leeds United, Sunderland, and Burnley were among them; they were all promoted from the Championship the previous season.
Although it was reported that clubs in the top tier might activate his £1.2 million release clause, the Blades could still consider a £2.5 million purchase to be a steal.
Sheffield United wants to strengthen their defence.
After a challenging start to the season, Tanganga and Godfrey's additions would most likely allay some defensive concerns at Bramall Lane.
Both have a strong background and might not be the final defenders to go this summer.
The Blades are still connected to free agent Ben Mee and Malmo FF star Nils Zätterström.
Ben Brereton Diaz, a Chilean international, has also been connected to the club in the meantime.
The forward is currently on the margins at Southampton after having already had two stints on loan at Bramall Lane.
