When Millwall travels to Sheffield United on Saturday, they hope to resume their winning ways. Alex Neil accepted responsibility for the Lions' 3-0 loss to Middlesbrough at
The Den on Saturday, making it a heartbreakingly depressing afternoon.
Seven days later, the South London team was unable to overcome a very strong Boro defence, despite having ended their terrible winless streak against Norwich City a week earlier with a 2-1 triumph at Carrow Road.
But Millwall's loss to Middlesbrough wasn't their only setback, and Neil has given as much information as he can over Alfie Doughty's recent injury issue.
Alex Neil expresses worry for Alfie Doughty following his dismissal from Millwall vs. Middlesbrough.
On his non-competitive debut in July, Doughty was outstanding, and he continued to play well in the season opener by providing an assist against Norwich.
As he made his way to his boyhood club, supporters were thrilled to see him leave Luton Town and join Millwall.
But on Saturday against Boro, he was substituted out in the 57th minute. Zak Sturge took his position after he went down holding his leg while playing left-back.
According to Southwark News, Neil has now given an honest update on the 25-year-old, saying: "At this stage, I'm not sure what the exact timeline is. "However, it doesn't seem like it will happen anytime soon."
Luton Town supporters are not unfamiliar with Alfie Doughty's injury issues.
Even though Millwall had such a promising beginning, the possibility of injuries was possibly something that may have been anticipated.
Doughty had a hamstring injury towards the conclusion of the season, which caused him to miss 19 games and ultimately finish his 2024–25 season early.
Perhaps Luton wouldn't have been demoted to League One if the wide player had been healthy.
In the upcoming weeks and months, Millwall must concentrate entirely on getting their new signing back to full fitness.
Although it's crucial to make sure that these injury issues don't repeat, Luton may be somewhat accustomed to these issues.
