After a "random" 17-minute delay, Shrewsbury Town needs a solution, according to Michael Appleton

After Shrewsbury's game was halted for 17 minutes over the weekend, Michael Appleton feels the football authorities need to come up with a better solution.

A 17-minute delay after assistant referee Scott Chalkley felt ill had a significant impact on the first half of Town's League Two opening against Bromley on Saturday, which ended in a 0-0 draw.

At one point, it appeared that the match might not go on after Alan Cork, a supporter of Shrewsbury, intervened and pulled both teams off the pitch.

This is going to happen again, according to Appleton, and it needs to be investigated. "Yeah, it was a little odd," he said.

"A little arbitrary. Since they stated that they require a referee with step five experience, I believe they should definitely take a closer look at that.

"What if the building was deserted? What would happen if the stadium was empty? What takes place?

Does the match get cancelled? I don't know, it's like.

"They need to be aware of that because it will undoubtedly happen again at some point throughout the season when someone becomes ill.

I understand that they can simply stand there and officiate as a fourth if they are injured, but perhaps they should investigate this."

After Anthony Scully made his debut over the weekend, the Town manager was happy with the forward's performance.

Appleton went on to say, "He had some really nice moments at times."

"He will recover. He hasn't had as many preseason minutes as some of the other players because he is one of the ones who has had few.

Thus, he will get more fit, stronger, and more adroit. He poses a serious risk. He will be beneficial to us and has a tonne of quality.
