Ellis Iandolo, a defender for Colchester United, will be out until October due to a knee injury.
The 27-year-old did not play in Tuesday's 5-0 preseason victory over Dagenham and Redbridge.
Iandolo suffered medial ligament injury during training, according to U's manager Danny Cowley, who spoke to BBC Essex after that victory.
"We are all with Ellis, he's such an important player to us so that's a tough one for us to take," Cowley stated.
"It was just an innocuous tackle in training on Friday and it's just opened up his knee, they are always hard to say but I would imagine he's out for 10 to 12 weeks."
The left-back Iandolo made 50 appearances for the U's during the 2024–25 season.
Cowley also provided an update on the future of Lyle Taylor, the leading scorer from the previous season.
"I think we are hopefully moving closer to getting something agreed," he stated.
"Due to the injury he sustained last year, Kyle is also injured. At the end of last season, we truly missed him.
He is currently nearing the finish of his rehabilitation, and by the end of this week, we hope to see him back on the pitch.
"We're really hopeful we can get something which is agreeable for all parties."
On Saturday, August 2, Colchester will host Tranmere Rovers to begin their League Two campaign.
