Ashley Young, a seasoned former England international, has signed a one-year contract with Town.

The 40-year-old, who was cut loose by Everton at the end of the previous campaign, had a physical at Town earlier today and is now the Blues' fourth summer acquisition.

Young is the oldest player the club has ever signed and is only joining as a player with no coaching responsibilities.

"His accomplishments speak for themselves, and Ashley has had an incredible career," manager Kieran McKenna stated on the team's website.

"He is still playing at a very high level and has maintained a very high level of professionalism and competitiveness throughout his career.

" He is eager to contribute both on and off the ball, and we believe his leadership and expertise will be beneficial to the team this season.

It's a great addition to the team and the club.

As previously reported, Young and other family members attended the U21s friendly at Needham Market last night, where his son Tyler was on trial with John McGreal's team.

Although he is still a trialist, it is believed that Tyler has impressed and is expected to be offered terms.

Young was reportedly on Town's radar earlier in the week, but no deal had been reached at that point, and his plan to return to his original club, Watford, had fallen through.

Young senior began his career with the Hornets at the age of ten and went on to score seven goals while playing for England 39 times.

The full-back or winger, who was born in Stevenage, joined Aston Villa in 2007 before moving to Manchester United four years later.

He joined the team when Kieran McKenna was elevated to the first team staff and has given the Blues manager high marks.

After playing on a team that won Serie A at Inter Milan, he returned to Aston Villa before joining Everton in July 2023, where he made 36 appearances the previous season.

Young stated this week that even though he is in his forties, he is eager to continue playing in the upcoming season.
