Exclusive: Leeds United star to be acquired by Birmingham City in a "great move"

Mateo Joseph will want to play every week if he moves from Leeds United to Birmingham City, Lee Hendrie has warned.

Amid rumours over the forward's future, Alan Nixon has revealed that the Whites have set an asking price of £10 million for him.

The Blues are up against teams like Real Betis and Celta Vigo, although they have been linked to a bid for the Spaniard.

In his 39 Championship games last season, Joseph helped Daniel Farke's team advance to the Premier League with three goals and three assists.

Mateo Joseph received a warning from Birmingham.

According to Hendrie, Leeds is unlikely to deviate from their £10 million estimate, and Joseph has a tonne of potential.

Although he cautioned that the forward will want to play every week in order to transfer to St. Andrew's, he also stated that the 21-year-old would make more sense than bringing in Jamie Vardy.

Hendrie told Football League World in an exclusive interview, "I believe that would be a more likely fee for Birmingham."

"Obviously, Mateo Joseph was signed. He has a lot of potential, but he hasn't exactly had a strong run with Leeds."

There's no denying that £10 million is a significant sum of money, especially in the Championship.

However, it seems like there has always been a lot of discussion about this child's abilities and potential. Leeds doesn't seem to be going to let him go for much less than that.

"Yes, I believe that would likely be the case. If you look at the Vardy situation, I believe that would likely be more of a goer, especially in terms of age.

And, of course, the battle for the number nine shirt, if you will, because I do believe that he needs to play football this season to validate all of the rumours that he may be a very talented player, of which we have seen hints.

"I believe Birmingham would benefit greatly from it.

"I believe that the core issue is whether he truly wants to fight and wants to go. "If he's moving from Leeds, I think he'll want to play football every single week."

On August 8, Birmingham will play Ipswich Town at home in their Championship comeback.

Joseph's regular minutes cannot be guaranteed by Birmingham.

Given that Kyogo Furuhashi and Jay Stansfield joined the team this summer and last, spending £10 million to sign Joseph would be a significant investment in the team's forward options.

With the choices available to him, Chris Davies cannot promise that the Leeds player will receive consistent minutes each week.

Given the cost, it would be surprising if they pushed for this contract, but perhaps a direct loan arrangement would be a better alternative for everyone in the upcoming campaign.

Otherwise, if Joseph does leave Elland Road this summer, it's more probable that he'll be going to Spain.
