Aden Flint, an accomplished centre-back, has signed a one-year contract with Walsall.
After making 93 appearances for the Stags and scoring three goals, the 36-year-old was released by League One team Mansfield Town at the end of the previous campaign.
In 2023–24, Flint participated in every league game as Mansfield earned automatic promotion from League Two.
His arrival follows Walsall's unreported sale of Irish centre-back David Okagbue to Peterborough United, a third-tier team.
"I've been in the building over the last couple of weeks training, getting to know the lads and the staff so I'm glad to get it over the line," Flint stated.
"I have a tonne of experience, and it will be a job well done if I can assist the guys in any way to reach our season-ending objective.
"I'm hoping that I can start the season strong by getting some minutes in the upcoming games. I'm quite excited and looking forward to it."
"Aden has excellent experience at this level and levels above in the English pyramid," noted boss Mat Sadler.
"He comes to us to provide the back-line a new dimension after having an incredible career.
He's not just here to be that, but his voice and experience around some of our younger men will be essential.
"He wants to carry on with his career and add another prosperous chapter to his already amazing one. We've had time to get to know one another because he's been with us for a while.
"Aden adds real competition and real leadership alongside the other fantastic defenders that we have and he's also a real threat from defensive and attacking set plays.
For teams including Swindon Town, Bristol City, Middlesbrough, Cardiff City, Sheffield Wednesday, and Stoke City, Flint has participated in more than 500 games.
Under Paolo Di Canio, the 6' 6" defender won League Two with Swindon in 2012 and League One with Bristol City three years later.
In addition to scoring the first goal in the Robins' 2-0 victory against Walsall in the EFL Trophy final at Wembley earlier that season, he scored a hat-trick in an 8-2 victory over the Saddlers on the last day of the 2014–15 campaign. Flint played in every game as Bristol City advanced to the League Cup semifinals in 2017–18.
Flint also scored in a loss to Manchester City in the semi-finals. Being the ninth player to join Bescot this summer, Flint is the team's second-oldest player, only surpassed by 37-year-old Albert Adomah.
