The MK Dons defender is expected to join Cheltenham Town on loan.

A 25-year-old defender is anticipated to join Cheltenham Town on loan from MK Dons.

Sam Sherring, a defender from MK Dons, is expected to finish his loan transfer to Cheltenham Town.

He will be their first acquisition under new owner Mike Garlick, whose takeover was completed last Saturday, and their tenth addition of the summer.

The 25-year-old will support a Robins defence that is currently overburdened by injuries, as boss Michael Flynn is without a number of important players.

Robbie Cundy and James Wilson are still out, and Darragh Power was hurt during Tuesday's Carabao Cup loss to Cardiff City. Captain Scot Bennett has also been out.

The full-back Arkell Jude-Boyd also left the game in the second half due to a niggle.

Even though Sherring won't be able to play against Salford City on Friday, Cheltenham's exhausted defence will benefit greatly from his presence.

Sherring, who began at the age of seven at AFC Bournemouth's academy, gained experience through loan stints at Cambridge United, Weymouth, Torquay United, and Accrington Stanley before landing a permanent position with Northampton Town in 2022.

He contributed to Northampton's League Two promotion campaign and set up Sam Hoskins' game-winning goal in the 88th minute at Whaddon Road in August 2023.

Sherring made 13 appearances for MK Dons last season after switching in the summer of 2024.
