Support for Bradford City's position on the "tricky" Nahki Wells transfer

Nahki Wells, a former striker, was linked to Bradford City this summer on a free transfer.

After being released from Championship team Bristol City, journalist Alan Nixon disclosed on his Patreon that the player was thinking about joining the Bantams.

Wells later signed with League One rivals Luton Town after manager Graham Alexander disclosed that the team would never be able to pay his salary.

During his two and a half seasons at Valley Parade, Wells scored 53 goals in 112 games. He also played a crucial role in their promotion to League One through the 2013 play-offs, when he scored a volley to assist the team win the Wembley final.

Graham Alexander supported the decision to not pursue Nahki Wells.

Boris Thomson, a Bradford City fan pundit for FLW, agreed that it would have been difficult to get Wells back and eventually supported the team's choice to pass on the striker.

Thomson said, "Nahki Wells was always a tricky one," to FLW. Bradford supporters undoubtedly agree that it would be wonderful to have him return.

It would have been wonderful to have him return since he is as much of a club legend as we have had in recent years."

Thomson quickly brought up the expense of returning Wells to West Yorkshire, though.

"Now, we knew it would’ve cost a lot to have him back, and it doesn’t surprise me that Alexander has openly said that the cost was too much," he continued.

"Wells is a player who is nearing the end of his career, not at the end, so I wouldn't say we should have spent a fortune to bring him back.

I also trust Alexander and David Sharpe, the Director of Football, with their acquisitions.

"They’ve made some quality ones in the last couple of years and I can completely acknowledge why they didn’t pursue Wells further," Thomson went on.

In April of last year, Sharpe took over as head of football operations at Bradford. In 2015, at the age of 23, he was named chairman of Wigan.

Stephen Humphrys and Will Swan are set to deliver a strong performance.

Bradford City decided to bolster their striking line by acquiring Barnsley's Stephen Humphrys and Crawley Town's Will Swann instead of chasing Wells.

Both players have agreed to two-year contracts; Humphrys has made 219 appearances in the third division during his career, scoring 52 goals.

Thomson was impressed by Swan's early displays, which included his first goal for the team during their Carabao Cup victory over Blackburn Rovers of the Championship.

"I wish Humphrys and Swan luck. It was fantastic to see Swan score his maiden goal against Blackburn.

Although everyone wanted Wells to return, Thomson came to the conclusion that it was the right choice.

Alexander's admission actually demonstrates how challenging it may be for certain teams to strike a balance between ambition and financial prudence.
