Michael Appleton: Head coach of Shrewsbury on Micky Moore's exit

Michael Appleton, the head coach of Shrewsbury Town, called the 24 hours following Micky Moore's departure "manic," but he insists he is ready to take over.

After two and a half years in the role, Salop's director of football departed the team on Friday by mutual consent.

If Moore wants to secure the targets he wants before the September 1 deadline, the Shrews manager will have to take over part of his duties with two weeks remaining in the transfer window.

The Shropshire Star questioned Appleton, a seasoned operator, regarding Moore's departure the day before the match versus Colchester.

He remarked, "It was a little bit manic." However, I was also composed since, at the conclusion of the day, I spoke with the board and the chairman.

From their perspective, they wanted to attempt to get me to concentrate as much as possible on the game, and to be fair, we accomplished just that.

"We were ready already. To a certain extent, we knew who was playing. Naturally, we were prepared for the game and didn't anticipate Sangy (Tom Sang) not playing. There is no justification from that perspective.

The weekend was yet another terrible one for Town, who lost to Colchester 2-0 for the third time in a row. They have yet to register a goal in league play this season.

Samson Tovide and Kyreece Lisbie's goals in the second half were sufficient to give the visitors the win, and Tommy McDermott, a young player who had started his first game after moving from Burnley, was sent off.

As he attempts to bolster the Town squad, Appleton adds that he is aware that there are people he can trust.

 He then on:

"Obviously, one or two players probably need to leave the building, and I've played this role before, where I was just a manager without a director of football."

"I will do that if it is necessary. I do that for a living. As I mentioned before, adding players is simply a different voice on the other end of the phone.

"However, there are still a lot of people I know I can trust to help me get favours, try to improve the squad, and bring a little more quality into the group."
