Tom Cleverley shares his aspirations for the Plymouth Argyle team to get stronger.

Prior to and during Cleverley's hiring as head coach, the Pilgrims signed nine new players this summer.

Tom Cleverley believes that 'as soon as feasible' will bring 'two or three' more players to his Plymouth Argyle team.

With a few players on their shortlist, the Pilgrims' manager admitted that the team was trying hard to sign "a number nine." Cleverley currently only has access to first-year professional Joe Hatch and summer recruits Owen Oseni and Bim Pepple, both of whom are 22 years old.

Although Cleverley acknowledged that the Argyle team required more depth, he has been "really pleased" with the calibre of the team, which includes nine new additions from both before and after he was named head coach on June 13.

Cleverley responded, "There are probably two or three more still to do," when asked about any new hires. We all know that the number nine shirt is still accessible, and there are perhaps two that you would think would be in the (beginning) eleven. I don't believe that one has any secrets.

Therefore, we are putting a lot of effort into that. This week, there have been discussions. You would want that to happen as soon as possible given the kind of difficult schedule we have for the first eight games, but things aren't usually that simple.

"I'm quite pleased with Bim Pepple and Owen Oseni's development in such a short period of time. They are growing and doing well, and I have no doubt that those two will support them no matter who takes over.

"I don't think everyone is looking for the same type of nine," Cleverley went on. The large focus point, the on-the-shoulders, and the technical ones that approach the ball are preferred by different people.

"We are searching for someone with a nine profile. We are all putting a lot of effort into making one of the two or three people on our shortlist come to pass.

Cleverley commented on the current size and calibre of his team, saying: "Very delighted with the quality. It's a great character. how they are able to absorb knowledge.

"I am quite happy with the quality, and we believe we will continue to improve it. We believe we could develop a wonderful group of three or four under-21 players who are currently on the outskirts into first team players every week in six to twelve months.

"I would say that we are two short in terms of depth. That is going to occur. In my opinion, the club has done a great job with its early business, both before and after I was appointed.

"I'm hoping the fans will witness some intriguing players over the preseason without placing too much pressure on them. So far, the window has been excellent.

"It was all about getting people who didn't want to be here or part of this next part of the journey out the door and sort of cutting out those distractions, without sounding too disrespectful towards those players, some of them have been great servants, and bringing in a fresh energy and a real hungry group, which I can see already."
