Rumour: Ipswich Town is negotiating to sign a Mexican midfielder for $10 million.

According to reports, Ipswich Town is discussing a $10 million (£7.4 million) move for Marcel Ruiz, a midfielder for Mexico.

Cesar Luis Merlo, a Latin America transfer specialist with 465k followers on X, claims that the Blues' negotiations with Toluca, a Mexican club, are "on the right track."

The 24-year-old Ruiz has played in his own country his whole career, making more than 200 appearances for Querétaro, Tijuana, and Toluca in the top division.

In May, the latter won their eleventh Liga MX championship. Ruiz started last week's CONCACAF Gold Cup Final in Houston, Texas, as Mexico defeated the USA.

He made a brilliant reverse ball that allowed Raul Jimenez of Fulham to equalise.

Ruiz, who has now earned nine caps, will be aiming for the World Cup next summer, which his country, the United States, and Canada are co-hosting.

Kieran McKenna, the town's manager, wants to restructure his midfield this summer after the team was relegated from the Premier League.

As of right now, Sam Morsy, Jack Taylor, and Cameron Humphreys, who is back on loan, are his alternatives in that department after Kalvin Phillips, Jens Cajuste, and Massimo Luongo left.

According to reports, the Blues have agreed to pay $9 million (£6.7 million) for Azor Matusiwa, a midfielder for Rennes.

The 27-year-old Dutchman graduated from the Ajax academy. Cedric Kipre, a former defender for Wigan, Cardiff, and West Brom, is also close to signing a contract.

If the Blues are promoted back to the Premier League in 2025–2026, there will reportedly be an obligation to purchase the 28-year-old on loan from French team Reims for €4.5 million (£3.9 million).

As of right now, Town's only summer acquisition is experienced custodian David Button (Reading, free).

On Monday, McKenna's team is scheduled to depart for Austria for a preseason training camp.
