Rivals of Middlesbrough set a frantic pace in the transfer market.

Following Rob Edwards' hiring, Middlesbrough is catching up since its Championship opponents have been very busy.

As they increase their summer reinforcements, the Championship teams have been active in the transfer market in recent days.

Middlesbrough has not yet taken action. There were no summer additions to strengthen the team; Rob Edwards and his coaching staff were the only newcomers travelling to Portugal for the preseason training.

Transfers have been somewhat put on hold as the Teessiders look for a new head coach, but Kieran Scott and Boro's recruiting team have been working diligently behind the scenes to find possible targets.

The signing of former Celtic attacker Kyogo Furuhashi from French top-tier team Rennes for an unknown cost, estimated to be about £8 million, continues Birmingham City's heavy recruiting expenditure. After winning League One and being promoted to the Championship, the Blues signed the Japan international to a three-year deal.

Furuhashi scored 85 goals in 165 games during his time with Celtic, and with 27 goals in the 2022–2023 season, he was the leading scorer in the Scottish Premiership. He paid £10 million to transfer to Rennes in January, but despite intense speculations that he would return to Celtic, he is back in Britain six months later with Chris Davies' recently promoted club.
