Although defeating the league leaders was memorable, experienced winger Ryan Hall believes the Leeds Rhinos' focus right now is on putting on another strong showing.
The Rhinos advance to Friday's visit of St Helens, who are fifth in the Betfred Super League and one of their nightmare teams, following back-to-back victories over fourth-place Leigh Leopards and table-topping Hull KR. Leeds hasn't defeated Saints at AMT Headingley since August 2018, when Hall played and scored in his debut game at the club. However, last Sunday's triumph snapped a six-match losing streak against the Robins."We need to back up because it's a big game," Hall stated. "We know Saints are a good team since they defeated us last time and had a nice victory against Hull FC. They have the upper hand thus far since we have only defeated them once this season and they have already defeated us in the league and the Challenge Cup. On Friday, we want to make that right at Headingley.
Leeds will only be two points behind the leaders in the Betfred Super League if they win, and Hull KR will face fourth-place Leigh the next day. Hall emphasised: "We've been written off several times in the many years I've been at Leeds. I am aware that this group is unique, but that's where we excel. I don't really care what others think since we've won it from fifth place twice. We'll just do our hardest and see where it takes us.
The victory from last Sunday will give the Rhinos a positive attitude going into Friday's match. It was especially meaningful to Hall since he defeated his old team. As a Leeds boy who played for the team for 12 years, he remarked: "I had to wait a long time. When I was at Leeds before, players always said how good it was when they beat the team they used to play for, but I never got to do that."
"I defeated Leeds a few of times while I played for KR, and that was the first time I beat KR after returning to Leeds. It's a wonderful sensation, but it's also a lot at once. Before [last week], they had only lost one game this season, including the Challenge Cup, and they are now leading the league.
They have a bit of a target on their back since they are the front-runners, play the game exceptionally well, are very systematic in their work, and execute at a high level. We arrived armed to shoot the target, and the outcome was what we expected.

Lachie Miller's remarkable long-range try, which saw the ball pass between six pairs of hands on Leeds' left before touching down, clinched the victory. “It was a great game and it needed a top-level try to win it,” said Hall, who played on the other wing.
That's what we generated. Coming up with that kind of expertise when you're exhausted is really difficult. Because there are fewer stoppages while the ball is maintained in play, energy levels are reduced. We pulled the trigger as soon as we had the ball in play long enough, and it was successful. In the play, we had some magical performers who performed some magical feats. Similar to Leigh's try against Wigan the previous week, it was an excellent attempt to secure the victory.
With around ten minutes remaining, the conversion gave the Rhinos a six-point advantage, but they still had to finish the game, something they failed to achieve in the home match in April. "[We thought] 'we have come so far, given our all for 70 minutes and just got our noses in front, so don't be clocking off now and doing something stupid in the last 10 minutes,'" Hall said of their strategy for the final moments. Let's play this game to the best of our abilities. We iced the game and ultimately won, so I believe we accomplished that.
