Frank Lampard was commended for one important aspect that "not many people" notice: Coventry City's extremely high "standards."

Expectations are naturally high for the Sky Blues going into the new season after their impressive finish to the last one under Frank Lampard.

A notable turnaround was brought about by Lampard's arrival, and supporters will be expecting for a persistent drive for promotion this season—some even predict that they will be promoted automatically.

But for the former Chelsea midfielder, who is now starting his first full season as manager, handling these elevated expectations will be a major challenge.

Coventry City is getting ready for what seems to be a thrilling season, and Frank Lampard's mindset for 2025–2026 has been well known.

The former Chelsea player wants to put an end to Coventry City's suffering after 24 years, and assistant manager Joe Edwards has provided an intriguing perspective on how he and Lampard could do this.

Edwards talked about Lampard's career, which has been characterised by his unrelenting drive and unshakeable desire as a player and now as a manager, on the club's official YouTube page.

Joe Edwards wanted to join Frank Lampard because of his "drive."

"Coaching was always something I wanted to be a part of; Frank made it clear the minute he retired that he wanted to get into it," Edwards said.

"Knowing Frank as a person and observing how he approached his career as a player and how he achieved those heights, which not many people were able to witness."

He was driven and unrelenting in his desire to get better. As soon as he announced to a select group of individuals that he was going to become a coach, I knew he would not let up until he achieved success.

That's how he approached being a professional football player, and he still does it now as a manager.

I was aware that I would want to learn from someone like that and would want to live up to those expectations.

In 2019, when Edwards was Lampard's assistant manager at Chelsea, the two started working together as coaches.

After that, they carried on working together at Everton and Chelsea for a little while until getting back together at Coventry City.

The comeback of Coventry under Frank Lampard and his group

Coventry City has seen a tremendous comeback during Frank Lampard's stay there.

The Sky Blues were in a dangerous position when he joined in November of last season.

they were only two points above the relegation zone in 17th place in the Championship table and were actively fighting to avoid relegation.

But Lampard orchestrated a spectacular recovery. Coventry became a powerful force under his leadership, steadily moving up the Championship standings.

They defied all initial predictions and earned a position in the Championship play-off semi-finals by finishing in fifth place at the end of the season thanks to their performance.

Even though they lost a close match against Sunderland and therefore destroyed their play-off dream, Lampard's metamorphosis was evident.

A sustained push for promotion in the forthcoming season is highly anticipated as a result of the club's newfound optimism and ambition brought about by this remarkable reversal in fortunes.
