Ainsworth Aims for Injury-Free Finish as Gillingham Completes Dartford Pre-Season

Gillingham boss Mark Bonner is aiming to close out pre-season preparations on a high note as his side travel to

Dartford for their final friendly — with manager and fans
alike hoping to avoid any last-minute injury setbacks.

Gills striker Josh Ainsworth, who has impressed in pre-season with his energy and work rate, shared his personal goal ahead of the game: staying fit and sharp heading into the 2024/25 League Two opener.

“Pre-season’s been good for us as a squad,” said Ainsworth. “There’s a good mood in the camp, and everyone’s been pushing each other. The last thing anyone wants now is to pick up a knock just days before the season starts.”

Gillingham have steadily built momentum through July, with encouraging performances against higher-league opposition and the chance to integrate new signings. The clash against Dartford offers one final opportunity to fine-tune tactics, build match fitness, and solidify starting spots before the campaign begins.

Ainsworth added, “It’s about finishing strong, doing the basics right, and making sure we’re ready. We’ve done the hard yards in training – now it’s about being smart.”

Mark Bonner is expected to field a strong lineup at Princes Park, potentially giving key players their final 90 minutes before next weekend’s curtain-raiser. Defensive organisation, transitions in midfield, and clinical finishing remain key areas of focus.

Fans travelling to Kent will be hoping to see positive signs from the squad — but more importantly, see all players come through unscathed.

With anticipation growing for the new season, the mood around the club is upbeat. If Gillingham can stay injury-free and maintain their rhythm, they'll enter the league campaign with quiet confidence

and high hopes.
