Phil Parkinson loses out on a massive coup as the £3 million Premier League captain is ready to reject a Wrexham transfer.

Phil Parkinson's transfer dreams may be coming to an end, but Wrexham has been after Fulham skipper Tom Cairney.

This summer, Wrexham want to sign a left-footed midfield player, and several names have been mentioned.
According to reports on Monday, Wrexham is reportedly interested in Lewis O'Brien and may spend a lot of money on the Nottingham Forest star.

Wrexham is interested in Barry Bannan, and Phil Parkinson has his eye on Reading's Charlie Savage.

Given how many left-footed midfielders have been connected to Wrexham this summer,
it appears that Parkinson is giving this area a lot of attention.

In the days ahead, those players could become even more important, and Wrexham will likely lose out on one ambitious aim.
Tom Cairney is about to reject Wrexham.
Wrexham was connected to a huge deal when the Premier League season was still in progress.

As Tom Cairney's contract with Fulham came to an end, there were rumours that Wrexham was attempting to sign him.
At one point, there was a genuine chance of a transaction, and Wrexham sent Cairney a sizable offer to go to North Wales.

Marco Silva thought Cairney would be departing Fulham at the end of the season, with Wrexham clearly winning the fight for his signing.

That optimism has waned as the weeks have passed with little development on Cairney's possible transfer to Wrexham.
A few days ago, it was reported that Cairney will inform Wrexham of his choice before his contract expired on June 30.

That day has arrived, and according to Peter Rutzler of The Athletic, Cairney is currently "moving towards" a new contract to remain at Fulham.

Although Rutzler notes that the agreement has not yet been reached, it is almost finalised and will be a one-year extension.

According to Sky Sports, Fulham spent £3 million to acquire Cairney from Blackburn Rovers in 2015.
With this new deal, Cairney will have spent 11 years at Fulham, and it's possible that the emotional appeal of carrying on the Fulham tradition outweighed his decision to join the Wrexham project.
Wrexham could get more attracted to Barry Bannan.
Cairney, a 34-year-old midfielder, has exceptional skill with the ball, particularly when it comes to set pieces and his passing range.

Cairney, a former Hull City player who has demonstrated his leadership abilities as Fulham captain, would have been a valuable addition to Parkinson's Wrexham midfield.

Wrexham had always had high hopes for Cairney, and now they could turn their focus to another veteran with a like profile.

Barry Bannan's contract with Sheffield Wednesday
expires this summer, and reports indicate that Wrexham wants him.
The similarities are obvious: Bannan is 35, only a year older than Cairney, and has captained Sheffield Wednesday in addition to being another left-footer.

Parkinson would consider Bannan as a straight replacement for Cairney this summer because of his skill as a passer and set-piece player.
