A transfer roadblock between Bradford City and Huddersfield Town seems as Nahki Wells' return is being pursued.

After leaving Bristol City, Nahki Wells has stated his goal to stay in the Championship going into the 2025–2026 season.

As the two West Yorkshire teams get ready to rekindle their on-field rivalry in League One this coming season after the Bantams' thrilling promotion from League Two, the Bermudan was recently the focus of possible reunion talks at two of his former clubs, Bradford City and Huddersfield Town, according to a recent update from Alan Nixon via Patreon.

Over the past ten years, Wells has established himself as a mainstay in the second division. He made the controversial move from Valley Parade to John Smith's Stadium in January 2014, and he played for Burnley in the Premier League before ending his five-and-a-half-year tenure at Ashton Gate in January 2020 after signing with the Robins under Lee Johnson.

City had a mixed record during his long stay in the West Country, frequently finishing as a strong, if not outstanding, mid-table team under four different managers and head coaches. One of those, Liam Manning, also left BS3 in the off-season to take a three-year contract to take over at his hometown team, Norwich City.

Wells played 237 games for the Reds, scoring 48 goals and dishing up 19 assists. Last week, it was announced that the 35-year-old will leave the team when his contract expired, making him a free agent as of July 12.

He scored ten goals in 39 games in the second division last season, the latest of which came in a 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion on April 8th, which gave Manning's team a play-off position. However, Sheffield United defeated them 6-0 on aggregate.

Eleven years after leaving for their bitter rivals, there was already a lot of conjecture that the striker would return to Bradford. However, in an interview with the Bermudan newspaper the Royal Gazette, Wells also swiftly rejected any connections.

"That is completely untrue," he declared.

Wells scored 53 goals in just 112 games during his previous stint with the Bantams. His most memorable contribution occurred during the 2012–13 season, when Phil Parkinson's team advanced to the EFL Cup final and made a comeback to Wembley in the League Two play-off final. The forward scored his 26th goal of the season while playing for the North London arch.

Nixon's latest report, however, outlines the extremely limited prospects of him returning to City or Huddersfield at this time. Despite Wells' desire to continue playing at the highest level possible, no Championship teams have been listed as interested parties.

The seasoned attacker has scored 111 goals for Huddersfield, QPR, and Bristol City combined in 424 division games played thus far.

With optimistic Nahki Wells swoops, Bradford City and Huddersfield Town
demonstrated their desire.

when finishing the previous season in a disappointing manner when Michael Duff was fired in March, many people think Lee Grant's team, in particular, can launch a prolonged promotion campaign. Both Yorkshire teams have demonstrated tremendous ambition in the early parts of the summer window.

Although it has subsequently been stated that the former Walsall loanee would not be leaving the Bet365 Stadium, Town was recently connected to an audacious raid for Stoke City striker Nathan Lowe, who already has players like  and Dion Charles to depend upon.

Although there would have been strong sentiment surrounding a deal for either club, it is evident that Wells has no intention of moving to League One for the first time since 2014. This is especially true given the striker's estimated salary at Ashton Gate, which was reportedly around £27,000 per week.
