Norman Bassette, a striker for Coventry City, is apparently being pursued by Eredivisie team Utrecht, and the two teams are in negotiations over a possible loan agreement.
According to Belgian writer Sacha Tavolieri, talks are underway over a possible deal that would include the forward's purchase option; however, the Midlands team has not yet confirmed the terms of the agreement.
Bassette left the French club Caen to join the Sky Blues last summer, but his first season was disappointing. The 20-year-old has been the subject of summertime rumours, and in June, he was connected to Belgian powerhouse Anderlecht.
He is reportedly planning to join Utrecht, who were fourth in the rankings the previous season, in the Netherlands.
In an exclusive interview with Football League World, Sky Sports analyst Lee Hendrie compared the forward to an ex-Coventry forward who erupted at the CBS Arena and stated that he thinks a loan is the best option for the forward.
"I did see signs of Gyokeres" is a claim made as one leaves Coventry. Hendrie responded, "You sit and wonder whether he is really going to get an opportunity at Coventry," when asked if sending the striker away on loan was a wise decision.
"He does have the physicality, and I thought he was great when he first came on. I did saw indications of Gyokeres in his demeanour. You must consider things from his point of view. Will he participate?
Viktor Gyökeres, who made a high-profile move to Arsenal this summer, spent three seasons with the Sky Blues, scoring 41 Championship goals before joining Portuguese powerhouse Sporting.
Both parties would benefit from it, in my opinion, but I would prefer to see it without a purchase option so they may test him out and see what he can do. He has promise and could become another Gyokeres.
"I enjoy the way he acts on a football ground. The possible purchase transaction is the only thing that surprised me.
If it were up to me, I would loan him out and see what he could do for a whole season," Hendrie said. Sky Blues should refrain from making a purchase.
Not surprisingly, Bassette is being rumoured to be leaving this summer given his lack of playing time under Frank Lampard in the second part of the previous campaign.
At the age of 20, the striker should be playing and growing, but Lampard's powerful forward line makes such minutes difficult to come by.
For his growth, a loan move to the Eredivisie would be ideal;
nevertheless, a buy option needs to be avoided. In his first season, Bassette demonstrated enough to even be compared to Gyökeres, who recently moved to Arsenal for £63.5 million.
Bassette will need minutes in his legs and the opportunity to find the back on a regular basis going forward. If a loan agreement is made this summer, it is crucial for Coventry that the team has time to assess Bassette when he returns before making any further decisions.
