Scott Parker on Aaron Ramsey, Armando Broja's debut and Burnley's cup victory over Derby County

After Burnley's dramatic victory over a resolute Derby County team in the Carabao Cup, Scott Parker was happy to cross the finish line.

After a perfectly-weighted assist from the less-spotted Mike Tresor, who was playing his first home game in sixteen months, Oliver Sonne's stoppage-time goal guaranteed the Clarets' berth in the competition's third round.

Aaron Ramsey, who was also making his first start since February 2024, had earlier given Parker's team the lead in the fourth minute.

However, Derby battled back into the match and tied the score through Bobby Clark. The home team then found it difficult to win the rest of the match.

It appeared like penalties would decide the match, but Burnley won thanks to a late burst of skill.

Parker remarked after the game, "I thought we started the game really well and we obviously get a goal in front."

However, the game eludes us somewhat. We were occasionally a little bit careless in possession, I believe it's fair to say.

Overall, I'm quite happy with how we had to put in a little effort and ended up with a beautiful goal.

"Look, though, we're up against a team that was organised and occasionally obstinate.

We found it difficult to really try to break them down at times, especially in that last third. We were definitely missing something.

But ultimately, we looked into a great possibility. After a few beautiful moments, there was a well-thought-out objective that clearly gets us through.

There were, nevertheless, some genuine advantages. There are certain advantages there because many of the players will haven't played much and they have some remaining minutes.

The fact that Ramsey scored his first goal while playing for Burnley was one of the night's major highlights.

"That truly makes me happy," Parker remarked. His journey has been a very lengthy one.

I'm glad he got the minutes today and definitely scored his goal since he's clearly recovering from a very long injury.

He gave a really, really strong performance tonight, in my opinion. Many of the boys, however, needed something in their legs tonight, so I'm happy for them as well.

Burnley, who made all 11 substitutions, appeared jumbled for a large portion of the match, which wasn't shocking since some of the starting players were either making their first appearances or coming back from extended absences.

Armando Broja was one of those rookies; he set up Ramsey's first goal but otherwise appeared a touch rusty.

Parker went on, "Look, I don't think tonight is a real judgement."

"Armando, he needs minutes, and it's clear that he hasn't played well. He's been with us for almost two and a half weeks now, and he definitely needs more time to recover.

That also involves training, so we'll accompany him there.
