Phil Parkinson's assessment on Wrexham AFC's loss against West Brom

Phil Parkinson claims that his team will have to be even more clinical in the Championship or face consequences because WREXHAM has advanced to a new level.

With the 3-2 loss to West Brom at The Racecourse on Saturday and the 2-1 loss to Southampton on the first day, there have been plenty of opportunities created in the first two games.

Even though the Reds' manager was dissatisfied with the defence for all three Baggies goals, he saw that his team had the best chances when the score was tied at one apiece, with Nathan Broadhead, a new record transfer acquisition, missing a sitter early in the second half.

Chances begged, and Parkinson believes Wrexham needs to be more brutal in the second division after a record-breaking three straight promotions.

"It is the level and you get get punished more on the clinical side," he stated. "We can be more clinical in offensive situations that we had during the game.

"We had a few excellent opportunities, and Nathan (Broadhead) gave us one where it was fantastic for us.

"We restricted them to very little in that second period but we knew they were dangerous on the counter and two moments have cost us again." Parkinson believed that all three objectives could have been prevented.

"We just dealt with the second one, the third one was a free header, and the first one had too much room in the box. That objective is easily evaded," he continued. "If you consider the second goal, there was a time in the game when we appeared to be the team that would win.

"We were winning, the boys were becoming more committed to the game, and we simply gave them goals by failing to handle situations."

"What occurs in and around both boxes is what matters; football never changes.

"Obviously, everything you do in between is crucial, but the main elements of the game are that we need to find the will and will to defend our box better than we have.

"We need to examine that closely because there are really straightforward moments that we haven't dealt with.

"We need to make sure that we have a group understanding that in and around both boxes, we need to be better but we'll get that I'm sure."
