Joe Gauci signs a season-long loan with Port Vale.

Joe Gauci left Premier League team Aston Villa to join a season-long loan deal with EFL League One team Port Vale.

The goalie for the Subway Socceroos will play for the Valiants during the 2025–2026 season in the hopes that regular playing time will prepare him for a berth in Tony Popovic's final FIFA World Cup 2026™ roster.

Gauci, 25, joined Villa from Adelaide United in February 2024. He participated in two EFL Cup games before being loaned to Barnsley in January of last year, where an injury ended his time there.

After finishing in second place the previous season, Port Vale was promoted to the third division of English football, and the goalie is now their eighth summer acquisition.

Gauci, who has seven Australian caps, was excited about the transfer.

"I think the opportunity that's been presented to me is an exciting one," Gauci said to the official media who represent the club.

"To be able to come and assist the team after a very successful and thrilling season last year, as they are now very ambitious to keep improving after that season."

"So to be able to join and to help the squad, it's exciting for sure."

"We're really happy to have Joe on board," stated Darren Moore, head coach of Port Vale, in a statement.

He is an additional player with first-team and international football experience who will offer fierce competition in the goalkeeping position at Vale Park.

"He will be welcomed straight into the group and we’re all looking forward to working with him this season."

On Wednesday morning (AEST), Port Vale will play Blackpool in the EFL Cup. On Saturday, August 16, they will play Burton Albion at 9:30 p.m. AEST in their league return.
