In an effort to increase Steven Schumacher's attacking options, Bolton Wanderers is thinking about making a second bid for Charlton Athletic forward Gassan Ahadme.
One of the League One team's well-known goals for the rest of the transfer window is to acquire a new number nine. They cannot, however, choose any number nine that will make up the numbers, as the boss has stated. The "right" one must be chosen.
Throughout this span, they have had a few targets in mind, including Ahadme. According to local publication the Bolton News, the 24-year-old forward was linked to Bolton last month.
The Addicks had also announced that a sum had been agreed upon between the two former divisional rivals. Wanderers have also expressed interest in signing Celtic's Jonny Kenny, although the Scottish team's asking price and their assessment of the teenage goal scorer differ by half a million dollars.
Alan Nixon said on Wednesday that Bolton is considering re-entering the race for the Moroccan, amid the halting pursuit of Kenny.
Bolton executives are supported in pursuing their interest in Gassan Ahadme.
Since joining the south London club for £1 million from Ipswich Town last summer, his record hasn't been particularly stellar.
Nevertheless, given their short tenures thus far, Liam O'Meara, a Bolton fan commentator for Football League World, has expressed admiration for many of the Trotters' summer arrivals. O'Meara will fully support Schumacher and the recruitment staff if they believe Ahadme is the solution.
"He [Ahadme] scored two goals in a preseason friendly last week, and I was wondering if Charlton would put him in the shop window with that look," he remarked. Additionally, it's possible that his two goals inspired Bolton to make a move.
"The main issue is that Bolton is considering moving since we aren't hearing enough positive things about Kenny from Celtic.
"Yes, we require a striker. We really must have a striker. Additionally, several of the signings we've made thus far appear to be very impressive.
"I'm willing to put my belief in them at this point if Steven Schumacher, Fergal Harkin [Bolton's sporting director], and the other players involved in this trade believe that, you know, this is the right move for us. So far, it appears that they are making the proper choice.
Bolton should have more time to finish their striker search after Mason Burstow's performance on the first day.
Mason Burstow, a center-forward for Hull City, was loaned to Bolton the day after Ahadme was first connected to a move to the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
Before being transferred to Stamford Bridge, the 22-year-old former Chelsea star was well-known with Charlton. He then experienced another brief stint of fame with the Addicks.
The youthful attacker has since had trouble establishing himself in the EFL, but he more than held his own in the season's first match against Stockport County despite looking bulkier.
After a shot from the right side glanced across Corey Addai's goal in the first half, he appeared to be hauled back in the area, which may have resulted in a penalty.
We've seen that Burstow is at the necessary level, therefore his performance against the promotion-hopeful Hatters will have bolstered Schumacher and the club's supporters. Perhaps more significantly, it will have relieved Harkin and others of the need to recruit a new center-forward.
