Summary: Sheffield United leaves, Bradford City signs a Premier League player, and Middlesbrough FC acquires Ivorian

BRADFORD Jenson Metcalfe, a midfielder for Everton, is City's seventh summer acquisition since they ventured into the Premier League.

The 20-year-old, who signed a three-year contract with the Bantams for an unknown price, had a successful loan stint at League Two play-off semi-finalists Chesterfield the previous season.

Metcalfe, a Wigan native who attended City's friendly victory over Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, has been with Everton since he was five years old and has risen through the ranks, landing his first professional contract in 2021.

"Jenson is a player with big potential and will bring extra competition to our midfield," Bantams boss Graham Alexander remarked in reference to his most recent addition.

"We are excited to watch him adjust to life at Bradford City because his skills both in and out of possession fit our game perfectly."

According to French reports, Middlesbrough is reportedly nearing a deal worth approximately €3 million for defensive midfielder Abdoulaye Kante.
The Championship team has had a quiet summer transfer window so far, but with the 20-year-old Ivory Coast under-23 international set to come from French second-tier team Troyes, things might pick up speed.

After missing his team's friendly last weekend, Kante, who has made more than 50 appearances for Troyes in Ligue 2, is now in talks with Boro.

The Teessiders, who put on a quiet display at Valley Parade, are also on the verge of acquiring Hull City defender Alfie Jones, while Callum Brittain, a former Barnsley player, is still a target for Blackburn Rovers.

Regarding departures, there is still conjecture around the fates of Dutch under-21 defender Rav van den Berg and England under-21 midfielder Hayden Hackney, who has been linked to top-tier teams Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham.
Feyenoord is at the forefront of the race to sign Van den Berg, who has expressed interest in both England and other countries.

Akin Famewo, a free agent defender who left struggling Sheffield Wednesday earlier this summer, is almost ready to join Hull.

John Lundstram, a former midfielder for Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield United, is also expected to join on a free transfer from Trabzonspor in Turkey.

Hull is now only able to sign players on loan and through free transfers; the club is contesting a rule that prohibits them from signing players for transfer fees.
MLS team Atlanta United is still in negotiations with Tigers midfielder Steven Alzate.

Miguel Freckleton, a Blades defender, has signed a two-year contract with St Mirren in the SPL.

Freckleton made 32 appearances for the Robins during his loan stint at Swindon Town in League Two last season.
