MONTROSE 5-0 DUNDEE Both teams fielded starting elevens

MONTROSE 5-0 DUNDEE Both teams fielded starting elevens that are unlikely for the opening league games next week because neither could advance to the next round of the League Cup.

In Montrose's case, Dillon was a member of the coaching staff, but Waddell, Gill, and Williamson were absent. Guys like Steeves, Webster, Loudon, Brown, and Shrives were on the subs bench. Only about five of Dundee's anticipated lineup for the upcoming week were available.

Duncan Nicolson, the referee, was going to give his yellow cards a lot of practice. Dundee started, and Montrose's clumsy clearance nearly gave them a goal, but it was scrambled away.

Lyons raced down the left in the attack at the other end and fed it to Bertie, whose 15-yard attempt was stopped. Simon Murray took over and made it 1-0 after three minutes as Dundee scored from a penalty for a trip in the area.

The youthful Montrose team had a poor start, and Dundee responded with three long-range, wasted corners.

After fifteen minutes, the game calmed down, but referee Nicolson gave Lyons and Smith yellow cards for unintentional fouls.

Galabov received the first Dundee yellow card for a foul, and the Montrose corner that resulted from the free kick was headed away but crossed again, and Quinn missed the mark on full stretch.

Dundee hit a long ball to a player who appeared to be offside on minute thirty, but the cross went across goal without anyone taking it, so it was not awarded. As Lyons was posing a threat to the Dee defenders, Montrose took another corner, but this time it was deemed offside.

Four yellows were given to the Mo in the first half, which ended 1-0 in favour of the Dee. Freeman was yellow carded just before halftime; it was another free kick, but this time it was not deliberate for the young player, and another yellow was directed at the Montrose bench.

Dundee made two substitutions in the second half, replacing Jones and Galabov with Astley and Digby. A Montrose onslaught almost gave Dundee the lead in the 47th minute, but Simon Murray smashed a loose ball past Aaron Clark at full speed after it was swiftly carried forward.

After Machado was fouled just beyond the area, the free kick was easily cleared, and Montrose received his fifth yellow card after Clark struck a Dundee player in the back.

After sixty minutes, the Mo made adjustments. Smith, who was getting along well with Quinn at centre back, was replaced by Steeves.

Steeve's experience was required at the moment, but Smith's height was overlooked. Brown and Webster, who took the place of Machado and Clark, also entered.

Since Lyons and Wighton were still on and were receiving assistance from Webster and Brown, who were giving them greater shape, Montrose was more dangerous.

To offer the Mo an attacking threat, Loudon replaced Freeman in minute 71. Dee Robertson replaced Yogane, and Ingram replaced Murray. Due to Masson's injury, Bradford took his place as a precaution. However, this left Montrose with little defence, and Dundee took advantage of it by scoring three more goals in the final ten minutes, all from set pieces that were not contested. The goals came from Robertson, Astley, and Graham.

Dundee may have earned the final score of 5-0 since they added more experience in the final half hour while the Mo defence faltered. However, there was a period in the second half when Montrose could have scored and the outcome would not have been so lopsided.

Although Montrose might draw drawbacks from this match, there were also advantages, which the coaching staff hopes to capitalise on for the first League One away game against Hamilton the following week. 1,808 people were present.
