Huddersfield Town's bold attempt to become a Championship mainstay fails.

The Lancashire Evening Post reports that Huddersfield Town's attempt to sign Brad Potts, an experienced midfielder for Preston North End, was turned down.

After finishing in 10th place, 14 points outside of the play-off spots, Huddersfield Town will begin their second season in League One. There will be a rebuild at HTAFC when 18 players from the first team and academy leave this summer.

The Terriers have made midfield and defensive reinforcements a top priority throughout the summer transfer window. Ryan Ledson, a former Preston North End midfielder who had been with the team since 2018, joins after departing the Lancashire team.

Murray Wallace, a 32-year-old defender, has also signed a two-year contract with the West Yorkshire team, contributing significant League One and Championship experience.

According to the Lancashire Evening Post, Huddersfield Town's approach for Preston North End player Brad Potts was turned down, suggesting that the team will also be adding more experience.

Jack Whatmough, a fellow Preston player, is reportedly also interested, but PNE is unwilling to let Potts go, thus HTAFC could have to go elsewhere.

Potts, 31, was at Barnsley before joining Preston North End in 2019. Because of his athleticism, Potts has played a variety of midfield and defence roles while at Deepdale.

Potts' 460 appearances in the Football League will serve as motivation for Huddersfield Town supporters. He has scored 211 goals for Preston in the Championship so far.

Because of his versatility and expertise, Preston decided to offer him a new contract in 2023. However, Potts' starting XI status may be in danger this season due to the recent acquisitions of Odel Offiah and Thierry Small, which has sparked interest from the Terriers.

The next Huddersfield Town season With League One expected to be as tough as ever, Huddersfield Town will be hoping to go closer to the top six next season.

Along with the possible signing of Potts, new manager Lee Grant will be hoping that players like Wallace and Ryan Ledson can offer experience that his team lacks in crucial games from the previous campaign.

It might be advantageous for both sides to make a play for Potts. Huddersfield Town is trying to find a versatile player with Championship and promotion experience as they continue to compete in League One

Even if PNE intends to remain firm, the allure of a new task may also play a significant role in a possible departure.
