Why Portsmouth is not using their Hilsea training facility for preseason training, but rather Middlesex

Pompey isn't currently training at their training facility, but they did return for preseason play on Tuesday.

Hilsea hasn't served as the background for Pompey's preseason training in recent days, as the more perceptive Fratton supporters have noted.

This is due to the fact that since Friday, John Mousinho's team has been using the facilities and fields at The Lensbury hotel in Teddington.

Situated on the banks of the River Thames, the 25-acre property in Middlesex is hosting the Championship club for three days

It was decided to give the playing surface more time to sink in because their training pitches had drainage work done during the off-season and Pompey had returned earlier this summer.

Mousinho's team will therefore be headquartered at The Lensbury until Sunday afternoon, after which they will take two days off before heading back to Hilsea on Wednesday.

"Protecting" the training fields in Portsmouth "At the moment, we just want to protect the training ground pitches as best as we possibly can," Andy Cullen, the chief executive, told The News.

We have clearly invested a significant amount of money in installing new drainage on pitches one and two.

The turf is already ready for play, but we thought the extra week would be helpful, so we relaid it on top. We returned to training earlier than usual this year because John and Rich were so eager for it to happen.

Instead, we went to The Lensbury and spent three days fully based there. Before travelling to Bratislava the following weekend, the players will return to the training field on Wednesday and Thursday after taking a few days off.

"I am pleased with the investment we made in the training field's fields; they are excellent and perfectly suitable for playing on."

On Monday, the Academy will train on theirs. In order to best protect the pitches after investing in a completely new drainage system, we are attempting to adopt a longer-term perspective.

"Before we leave for Slovakia, staying at The Lensbury also fosters that little bit of togetherness."

"Notable investment" at Portsmouth's training facility Cullen has already mentioned that Pompey's training ground is undergoing "significant expenditure" this summer.
