Trump Suspends Tariffs on Mexican and Canadian Goods

On February 3, 2025, President Trump announced the suspension of 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada after intense negotiations. The tariffs, which were set to take effect on February 5, were intended to pressure both countries to take stronger actions against fentanyl trafficking and illegal immigration.

In response to the suspension, Mexico agreed to send 10,000 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to target fentanyl trafficking, while Canada committed to stepping up efforts to prevent fentanyl from crossing its border. The tariffs are now paused for 30 days to allow for further negotiations.
