After admitting that James Carragher would remain in the Wigan Athletic treatment room until mid-October due to a "crazy" thigh injury, Ryan Lowe was frantically looking for positives.
Within five minutes of Saturday's 2-0 loss at Leyton Orient, the 22-year-old pulled up limp.
It was initially believed that he had suffered a relapse when he needed extensive treatment during the first half of the season-opening victory over Northampton Town before he could finish the game.
Lowe acknowledged that the issue was new, though, and that he had never encountered it in his football career.
The head coach of the Latics stated, "James had surgery on his thigh on Monday morning...it's a bizarre one really."
"At first, it was a dead leg that had been gashed—not really gashed—but the muscle inside his thigh had ruptured.
"There was a split that needed to be fixed; if I'm being completely honest, it's a very dramatic injury.
"They had to drain the bleeding from his knee, although it wasn't mechanical in nature.
It is unquestionably his left knee, not his, which he had surgery on in the past, which is a plus.
"And that's also a positive, because he doesn't hit the ball with that leg, it's only for standing on, but he obviously won't be with us for a while."
Then, Lowe broke the heartbreaking news about the breakout star from the previous season that Latics supporters had been dreading.
"It's likely going to be four, six, or even eight weeks. "At the moment, I'm not entirely certain," Lowe continued.
But since he has been amazing for us, it is a great loss. "At the same time, it does give other players an opportunity to shine, and they have to be ready to do just that."
Since the players returned for preseason training at the end of June, Carragher is the most recent in a long line of players to sustain injuries
Due to a variety of problems, forward Chris Sze, defender K'Marni Miller, wingers Jonny Smith and Callum McManaman, and midfielders Matt Smith and Baba Adeeko have not yet played a game this season.
Children Following their individual setbacks, Luke Robinson and Harry McHugh made their first appearances this term against Notts County in the Carabao Cup in the middle of the week.
Isaac Mabaya, a defender for Liverpool on loan, is also awaiting word on the severity of what appeared to be a catastrophic leg injury that forced him to be carried off against the Magpies.
