Brian post-Port Vale | Learning and Improvement

 Brian Barry-Murphy talked to the press after City's gritty 0-0 draw with Port Vale.

"Obviously there were large parts of the performance that we would like to be better, especially in front of an incredible travelling support." Brian began. "But, ultimately, we have no concerns about the outcome of the game. I think we were fortunate to gain a point given how wonderfully Port Vale performed. There are areas of our play that need to be improved, but we'll take the point and clean sheet.


"I thought the players' general character in defending the goal was gratifying; they made solid blocks, and keeping Nathan's clean sheet on his debut for the club was essential.

Since the first day I joined the club, the players have demonstrated incredible humility and work ethic in training, and it is my duty to model for them how we want to play and to reinforce those concepts as the game gets harder. It is my duty to demonstrate our style of play to the players, and as long as they do that, we will succeed.

We are a youthful team, and on Saturday we played quite well, going behind the opposition's final line with great success. We had the last line tonight, but it was a little more challenging because they were playing a back five.

"You need to be more patient when switching plays to isolate their wide defenders. We kind of approached the game the same way we did on Saturday, trying to attack heavily on one side. As a result, our play became a little hurried, which helped the opposition's strategy and hurt ours."

Nathan Trott, a rookie goalie who came on loan from Copenhagen FC on Wednesday, recorded a clean sheet tonight.

"I believe the players risked their lives to create blocks for him." Brian went on. Since this field is difficult to get to, it will be significant for us if he can feel it, receive the benefit of a clean sheet, and truly begin to grasp how we want to play.

"Port Vale's test was comparable to our preseason game against Notts County, where we played at someone's home field in front of their fans. It was crucial for the players to comprehend the same scenario today, and it is my responsibility to inform them of the alternatives we must come up with to overcome that obstacle. Throughout the season, we will undoubtedly accomplish that.
