PRIOR Richard Kone, a trialist for Colchester United, left Wycombe Wanderers to sign with Championship team QPR for an undisclosed sum.
The 22-year-old striker has signed a contract with the West London team after spending some time with the U's in the summer of 2021 but not signing a contract with them.
After joining Colchester on trial during the preseason and playing in their friendlies against teams like Spurs, Watford, and Billericay Town, Kone made an impression at the club before the 2021–2022 campaign under Hayden Mullins.
However, because to issues with his work permit, a transaction could not come to pass, and Kone remained at Athletic Newham.
"It's an amazing feeling, I'm really glad to join an amazing team, a great club," Kone said on the QPR website.
"I'm eager to get going. "I've always had a strong desire to become a professional football player.
"I decided that I would be prepared when the time came. I will be prepared to accept it. "By God's grace, it took four years, and I did take my chances when the time was right, and now I am here."
In his first full season at the professional level, Kone scored 21 goals for Wycombe in all competitions and was chosen as both the EFL League One Player of the Year and the Young Player of the Year.
Before joining Wycombe from Athletic Newham of the Essex Senior League in January 2024, he scored more than 120 goals in https://www.allsportnews.co.uk than four years at the non-league level.
After 18 months at Wycombe, Kone claims that he was persuaded to join QPR by a conversation with CEO Christian Nourry, head coach Julien Stéphan, and head of recruitment Andy Belk.
The 'clap only' technique is implemented by the Essex club in an effort to reduce inappropriate behaviour. It was a very pleasant conversation, he remarked. When they showed me the project, I was blown away.
"I make an effort to improve every day.
I believe they can count on me to work hard off the ball, connect with my teammates, and achieve goals.
"I'll believe in myself and declare that I will score goals." Regardless of my level, I have always had faith in myself. You still need to get better, learn new things, and expand on what you currently know.
