The center-back's return to League One to join Wycombe Wanderers has officially announced Connor Taylor's departure from Bristol Rovers.

According to the BBC, Rovers paid Stoke City £300,000 for the defender in 2023, and his selling is thought to have brought them a nice profit. The fee was more than £500,000. Bristol Live is aware that there are a lot of contingency fees in the transaction.

The 23-year-old joined the Gas as a loanee prior to the 2021–2022 League Two promotion season and played 136 games across two stints.

Taylor was a key member of that team and, after seeing Championship football at Stoke, returned to BS7 permanently in 2023.

Despite the team's relegation, the centre-back played 48 games in all competitions last season and was awarded the Gas' player of the season.

In the FA Cup, he scored the game-winning goals against Weston-super-Mare and Bolton Wanderers.

In a press release, Rovers stated: "Everyone at Bristol Rovers would like to thank Connor for all of his efforts during his time with the club and wish him every success in his future career."

"Connor is a brilliant capture for us and someone with really good experience at this level, despite still being at a young age," Wycombe head coach Mike Dodds said in the team's statement.

"He'll bring extra steel into the team as well as his height, ability on the ball and strong defensive attributes so we're delighted he's agreed to join us and look forward to working with him."

Before the transfer window ends on September 1, Rovers are reportedly looking to sign at least one backline player to cover Taylor's absence.
