Swansea City's €1 million attempt to get a Brazilian star fails.

According to The Athletic, Swansea City's €1 million offer for David Sousa, a centre-back for RWD Molenbeek, was turned down.

As they prepare for a new era under Alan Sheehan, Swansea City is looking to bolster their roster this summer.
The Swans management is aiming to support the Irishman with some noteworthy additions of his own in an effort to close the distance to the play-offs, after his excellent work as interim manager won him the permanent position.

However, it seems like Brazilian centre-back David Sousa is one player who will not be moving to South Wales.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, recently promoted Belgian Pro League team RWD Molenbeek rejected Swansea City's €1 million (about £850,000) bid.

Even if there is still a lot of time in the window, it is believed that the two clubs cannot agree on the 23-year-old Sousa's worth, and as a consequence, negotiations are not anticipated to proceed.

Since January 2024, Sousa, a centre-back with a left side, has played for the Belgian team. He only has a year left on his contract with the club, having arrived from Brazilian team Botafogo after spending time on loan at Cercle Brugge.
Swansea City takes a sensible stand
Hearing that Swansea City won't pay the asking price for one of their transfer targets may make some people a bit irritated. Additionally, considering how past windows have gone, some people could be worried.

It would be unwise for the Swans to be so readily persuaded to pay more than they think a player is worth at this early stage of the transfer market.
According to all reports, Sousa is a fantastic centre defender and the kind of player they should be aiming for because he is 23 years old and left-footed.

But next summer is when his contract expires. With good reason, the Swans won't want to overpay for a player who may be available for free at this time next year.
Modifications in the rear
This summer, Swansea City has already shown that the centre-back position is one that is subject to alteration.

With Harry Darling joining Norwich City, Hannes Delcroix's loan expiring, and Kyle Naughton, Kristian Pedersen, and Cyrus Christie departing at the conclusion of their contracts, signings have become imperative.

Cameron Burgess appears to be a great addition, while Ricardo Santos, who will probably have a difficult time getting a starting spot, will provide leadership and physicality once he gets there.

More alternatives are necessary, though, as only Ben Cabango is included in the ebooks.
